Will I be asked embarrassing questions?

No – The researcher aims to work in a spirit of empathy and mutual respect with all participants. They will ask you general questions about what it was like for you to be diagnosed and treated for male breast cancer. You may then volunteer as much information as you are comfortable discussing.

Can I bring someone to the interview with me?

Yes – If you do not wish to be interviewed in your own home, then we are happy for someone to accompany you. Due to the confidential nature of interviewing, it is usual for the participant to work on their own in a quiet comfortable setting with the researcher. If however, you feel that you would benefit from having a friend, partner, or other family member with you during the interview, then we are happy to accommodate this.

Will I be paid for taking part?

No – but we will meet all reasonable transportation costs for you and for any person who you wish to accompany you.

Do I need to share my medical records?

No – We just ask each participant to confirm their cancer diagnosis, cancer stage and any treatment they may be currently receiving. The team will not request or have access to any other medical information unless you choose to share it and it is relevant to the study.
